Brand Identity — Amazon Guide

Amazon Brand Story vs. Brand Identity: What's the Difference (and Why Your Listing Needs Both)

Amazon Brand Story is a single feature — a scrollable carousel above your A+ Content built from a fixed set of modules. Brand identity is the complete visual and verbal system — logo, color, typography, packaging, and voice — that Brand Story is supposed to express. Sellers who build one without the other end up with a carousel, not a brand.

Section 01

Brand Story and Brand Identity Aren't the Same Thing

The two get confused constantly because Amazon named a feature "Brand Story," and it sounds like it should cover branding in general. It doesn't. Brand Story is one placement on one page type. Brand identity is the system that every placement — main image, A+ Content, packaging, Brand Store, and yes, Brand Story — is supposed to draw from.

This matters because sellers routinely build a polished Brand Story carousel with no defined logo system, color palette, or photography style behind it — then wonder why it doesn't build the trust it's supposed to. A carousel can only express a brand that already exists.

Section 02

What Amazon Brand Story Actually Is (and Its Limits)

Amazon Brand Story is a Brand Registry feature — a scrollable carousel of up to 19 modules that appears above your A+ Content on every enrolled ASIN. On desktop, shoppers move through it left to right; on mobile, the modules stack vertically. Publishing it across your active catalog is also what unlocks Premium A+ Content eligibility.

What It Does Well

Introduces your brand before a shopper reaches product-level detail, reuses across every ASIN in your catalog, and feeds Amazon's Rufus AI assistant directly through its "About" text field.

What It Can't Do

It doesn't define your logo, color system, or photography style — it can only display whatever system already exists. It also has no reach beyond Amazon: packaging, your website, and other channels are untouched.

Brand Story eligibility is a checkbox Amazon will accept from any registered brand — it says nothing about whether the content is actually built on a real identity system underneath.

Section 03

What Brand Identity Actually Covers

Brand identity is the full visual and verbal system built to work together across every touchpoint — not just Amazon. When any one piece is missing or inconsistent, the brand stops compounding: each asset looks fine alone, but together they read like four different brands happened to sell the same product.

01
Foundation

Logo System

Full-color, white, dark-background, and icon-only versions — ready for every placement from packaging to Brand Store.

02
Foundation

Color Palette & Typography

A defined, limited palette and type system — not "whatever matched the last template" — applied consistently everywhere.

03
Expression

Photography & Image Style

A consistent lighting, styling, and composition approach across main images, lifestyle shots, and A+ Content.

04
Expression

Packaging

The physical extension of the same system — the first brand touchpoint after the "buy" click, and often the most memorable one.

05
Placement

A+ Content & Brand Story Templates

Module layouts and text voice built from the identity system — not designed fresh, ASIN by ASIN, from a blank page.

Brand Store Architecture

The same visual language extended into a multi-page storefront, not a separate design exercise.

Section 04

Why Listings With Only One of the Two Underperform

Each half solves a different problem, and skipping either one leaves a visible gap a shopper can feel even if they can't name it.

Story Only

A polished carousel that doesn't match the main image, packaging, or Brand Store — it reads as disconnected marketing copy rather than a coherent brand, and undercuts exactly the trust it's meant to build.

Identity Only

A strong logo, palette, and photography style that never gets published as Brand Story — leaving Premium A+ Content locked and buyers who click your brand name with nothing to read.

Section 05

How to Build Brand Identity Before Writing Brand Story

Build the system first, then write the carousel from it — not the other way around. Doing it in reverse means rewriting Brand Story every time the identity underneath it changes.

1
Lock the logo and color system first. Every other asset — packaging, A+ Content, Brand Story — should be built to match it, not the reverse.
2
Define a photography style guide. Lighting, angle, background treatment, and props — documented once, applied to every future shoot.
3
Align packaging to the same system. The unboxing moment should visually confirm what the listing images promised, not introduce a different brand.
4
Only then write Brand Story. With the system defined, Brand Story becomes a matter of applying it to Amazon's module format — not inventing a look on the spot.
Section 06

Brand Story Best Practices for 2026 (Rufus-Readable)

Amazon's Rufus AI assistant treats the Brand Story "About" text field as a high-priority source when answering buyer questions about who makes a product — which means how that text is written matters as much as how the carousel looks.

Write Factual, Not Flowery

Rufus extracts direct, structured sentences more accurately than marketing language — answer "who makes this and where" plainly in the text field.

Prioritize Text Over Image-Only Modules

Text baked into images is invisible to Rufus — put anything you want it to surface into an actual text field, not a graphic.

Keep It Consistent Across ASINs

The same Brand Story can run across your whole catalog — consistency here reinforces the identity system rather than fragmenting it ASIN by ASIN.

Section 07

How SHTONDA.DESIGN Builds Both Together

SHTONDA.DESIGN treats Brand Story as the last step of a brand identity project, not a separate deliverable — the same sequence recommended throughout this guide.

1
Identity system audit or build. Logo, color, typography, and photography style, documented as a single reference system.
2
Brand Story designed from that system. Modules and "About" text built to match — and written Rufus-readable from the start.
3
A+ Content and Brand Store alignment. Every placement pulls from the same visual language, so nothing looks like a separate project.

For the full system-building process, see Brand Identity for Amazon Sellers, and for how Brand Story feeds into A+ Content specifically, see the Amazon A+ Content guide.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Amazon Brand Story required for Brand Registry?

No. Brand Story is optional, but publishing it across your active catalog is what unlocks Premium A+ Content, which can lift sales up to 20% versus Basic A+'s 8% (Amazon, sell.amazon.com) — so most Brand Registry sellers build it anyway.

Can I have Brand Story without a full brand identity?

Yes, technically — Amazon doesn't check for consistency. But Brand Story without a defined identity behind it usually looks disconnected from your main images and packaging, which undercuts the trust it's meant to build.

Does Brand Story affect Amazon SEO ranking?

Not directly through keyword indexing, but Brand Story's About text is a high-priority source for Amazon's Rufus AI assistant, and stronger buyer trust and conversion feed the sales-velocity signals that do influence organic ranking.

How is Brand Story different from the "About the Brand" A+ module?

Brand Story is a separate, catalog-wide carousel that appears above A+ Content. The "About the Brand" module lives inside A+ Content itself, on a single ASIN, and is typically shorter and more product-specific.

How often should I update my Brand Story?

Review it alongside your broader brand identity — at least every 6 months, or any time your product line, positioning, or visual identity changes enough that Brand Story no longer matches your current main images and packaging.
